6 Cottage Cheese Ice Cream Recipes: The Surprising Social Media Trend to Try This Summer

Cottage cheese has been a beloved choice for health-conscious individuals due to its nutritional value and reputation as an effective superfood for weight loss. Recently, it has gained tremendous popularity on TikTok and other social media platforms, serving as the primary ingredient in the latest craze: cottage cheese ice cream recipes.

Discover the simplicity of creating a delectable frozen treat with cottage cheese that not only satisfies your cravings but also contributes to your well-being. Explore this flourishing social media trend and uncover the fascinating insights. Plus, indulge in our assortment of healthy and delightful cottage cheese ice cream recipes below!

Is Cottage Cheese Ice Cream Healthy?

Cottage cheese is the main ingredient in cottage cheese ice cream, making it a healthier option than many other frozen desserts. Once referred to as “curds and whey, cottage cheese is a simple food that people have been making for generations. Unlike many other types of cheese, cottage cheese is not aged or hardened. It is fresh and creamy when you eat it.

According to the California Dairy Press Room and Resources, “Cottage cheese is made by adding an acid to pasteurized milk which causes a separation of the milk solids from the whey.” The acid is usually lactic acid from a bacteria culture or a “food-grade acid” like vinegar.

“After the curd is formed, it is gently cut into pieces that allow additional whey to drain from the curds,” explains the California Dairy Press Room and Resources. “The curds are further cooked and pressed gently to expel more whey. The curds are rinsed and salt is added.”

Cottage cheese is high in protein yet lower in fat and calories, making it a good food for weight loss. In fact, full-fat cottage cheese is only four-percent fat. (In comparison, other cheeses are around 30-percent fat.)

A half-cup serving of four-percent cottage cheese has 110 calories and 13 grams of protein. The curds come from casein, a protein that is especially useful for building and repairing muscles. That’s why so many exercise enthusiasts are eating cottage cheese these days. For the same reasons, it can be valuable for anyone starting a workout routine or trying to eat well to shed extra pounds.

Casein is one of two kinds of protein in dairy products. (Whey is the other.) Casein is absorbed by your body more slowly than other types of protein. That keeps you feeling full and energized long after you eat it.

Cottage cheese is also a rich source of calcium, a mineral that plays a key role in maintaining bone health and regulating blood pressure.

Making Cottage Cheese Ice Cream

GojiBerry500_amat_1a-2.jpg

We tasked our recipe developer with making several different cottage cheese ice cream recipes that fit into your Nutrisystem weight loss plan. After experimenting and taste testing recipes made with different types of cottage cheese, it was found that regular four-percent cottage cheese was the winner. Varieties with less fat than this contain too much water and the end result did not taste up to par.

There is no nutritional difference between large and small curd cottage cheese, but some people find the large curd tastes slightly less acidic. Either works for making ice cream.

Making the ice cream is so easy. No ice cream churn or any other special equipment is required. Along with the cottage cheese, all you need is a natural sweetener such as honey or maple syrup. You can also add in other tasty ingredients that you enjoy (more on that below!)

Simply put the ingredient in a blender or food processor, then whip until everything is smooth and creamy. It will be a somewhat thick liquid with no clumps remaining.

Pour the liquid into a freezer-safe plastic container and cover it tightly with a lid. Pop the container into the freezer for 90 minutes to a few hours, depending on the recipe. When you’re ready to enjoy, you may need to let it sit out at room temperature for 10 to 20 minutes before scooping if it’s completely frozen.

Cottage Cheese Ice Cream Ideas and Toppings

GojiBerry500_2pack-8.jpg

Made with love, homemade cottage cheese ice cream offers a refreshing taste and a texture that resembles frozen yogurt. Customize your own unique flavors and indulge in a personalized ice cream experience. Check out these creative ideas to enhance your homemade delight.

1. Flavor Extracts and Spices

You can pump up the taste of your homemade ice cream without loading on extra calories. You need only a few drops of flavor extracts, such as vanilla, peppermint, coconut or lemon. There are so many different flavors, so choose your favorites and experiment!

Spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and ground ginger also give your ice cream a punch of flavor. These are all Free foods on the Nutrisystem weight loss plan, so you can use as much of them as you like.

2. Cocoa, Peanut Butter and Espresso Powders

You can include flavorful powders in your blend to heighten the taste of your ice cream. Unsweetened cocoa powder gives your ice cream a chocolaty flavor without adding sugar. Peanut butter powder works well because it has the flavor of your favorite creamy peanut butter, but far fewer calories because the fats have been removed. If you like coffee-flavored ice cream, add espresso powder.

3. Fresh and Frozen Fruit

Strawberries, blueberries or raspberries bring color, nutrition and natural sweetness to your dessert. Chopped cherries, diced peaches, mango chunks and pineapple pieces can be incorporated into the ice cream or used as a topping for the basic recipe. Blending a banana into the base will make it even more creamy and sweet.

4. Other Ice Cream Toppings

If you want to turn your cottage cheese ice cream into a sundae, you can use one or two of your daily Extras. Just be sure to stick to the serving sizes in the Nutrisystem Grocery Guide, such as a half-tablespoon of semi-sweet chocolate chips, two teaspoons of chocolate syrup, or two tablespoons of light whipped topping. With or without these extras, your cottage cheese ice cream will satisfy your cravings for a cool and sweet treat while fueling you up with powerful protein.

How To

African mango extract offers potential benefits

African Mango Oils have long been used as a natural remedy for many ailments, including cancer. These extracts date back as far as ancient Egypt. They were used to treat wounds, diabetes, and stop bleeding.

Scientists at the University of Nigeria have discovered that African mango extracts are rich in certain compounds, including tannins, flavonoids and Vitamin C. These compounds help to prevent blood clotting and fight free radicals. They also improve liver functions, reduce cholesterol levels and lower blood pressure. They promote cell growth and boost immunity systems.

  1. Cancer Treatment. Worldwide, more than 50% of all types of cancer are due to environmental factors like smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol or eating unhealthy food and not getting enough exercise. Therefore, it is essential to find ways to prevent cancer. Many studies have shown that antioxidants in foods like bananas, blueberries, broccoli, grapes, onions, oranges, peas, and tomatoes can help prevent cancer.
  2. Antioxidants neutralize harmful substances, called "free radicals," that can cause cell damage or genetic mutations. Research shows that African mango extracts can slow down, or even reverse, the growth of cancerous cells in mice. One study showed that an African mango extract helped stop the growth of human colon tumor cells in vitro (cells grown in laboratory dishes). Another study demonstrated that African Mango Extract could inhibit the growth and metabolism of prostate cancer cells in vivo. These results suggest that this product may be able to treat certain types of cancer.
  3. Cancer Prevention. The National Institutes of Health published a recent animal study that showed African mango extracts could prevent breast cancer development. They believe that the active ingredients in African mangoes inhibit the action of enzymes responsible for producing estrogen, a hormone known to increase the risk of developing breast cancer.
  4. Inflammation Reduction. Inflammation is caused by chemicals made by white blood cells that attack foreign tissue. This causes pain and swelling. Inflammation can occur when there is infection, injury, or irritation. Some diseases, such as arthritis and asthma, can result from chronic inflammation. Research has shown that African mango extracts can lower the production and severity of inflammatory chemicals. This could help to reduce the severity of symptoms.
  5. Liver Function Improvement. The liver is one of the most vital organs in the body. It regulates digestion as well detoxification and protein production. A healthy liver helps regulate internal processes, such as water balance and sugar level. Research has shown that African mango extracts can help to regenerate liver cells damaged by drugs or toxins. This may be why people who consume large amounts of African mango juice report feeling less tired after meals.
  6. Blood Pressure Lowering. According to the American Heart Association, adults should aim for a normal blood pressure reading of 120/80 to 140/90mmHg. High blood pressure can cause damage to the arteries which increases the risk for strokes and heart attacks. Scientists at the University of California-Davis studied the effect of African mango extracts on high blood pressure in rats. Their research revealed that African mango extracts significantly reduced blood pressure.
  7. Bone Building. Bone Building. A placebo-controlled, double-blind trial at the University of Alabama School of Medicine revealed that supplementation of 500 mg of vitaminD3 and 2 g of calcium daily with 3 grams of sodium citrate significantly improved bone mineral densities. This was equivalent to 10 ounces of fresh African mango juice daily.
  8. Additional Benefits African mango extract increases blood flow to the skin's surfaces, improving skin health. It stimulates collagen production which results in a smoother and younger-looking skin. In addition, African mango promotes hair growth and prevents premature graying of hair. It can also promote fat metabolism which helps in weight loss.

What is the Work of African Mango Extract?

Mango fruit has a high level of vitamin A, which boosts the immune system. It also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties as well potassium and magnesium.

These nutrients all work together to support the health of cells, tissues, and organs throughout the body.

Additionally, African mangoes have been shown to improve endurance and energy levels during exercise. This is because the African mango supports metabolism and cardiovascular function.

The active ingredient in this product works by increasing blood flow to the brain and muscles. This improves mental clarity, and physical performance.

African mango extract not only boosts energy, but also prevents muscle cramps after exercise. This can be extremely helpful for athletes that need to perform at their peak.

What is an African mango?

The fruit was first discovered by British explorers on an expedition to Africa. Although it has been grown in South America for many centuries, the fruit's production is declining due to climate change, deforestation and other factors.

The African Mango Project seeks to reverse this decline through sustainable methods of fruit growing in East Africa.

They also work towards creating jobs locally and improving the livelihoods of communities near plantations.

They aim to harvest the first commercial crop within five years.

Are there natural alternatives for prescription drugs like Phentermine to suppress your appetite?

Green tea is rich in antioxidants which help to fight free radicals as well as protect against damage from stress and oxidation.

It is important to remember that green tea doesn't cause weight loss. It simply increases your body's efficiency at burning calories.

So yes, green tea does help with weight loss, but it won't make you lose weight unless you follow a calorie-controlled diet.

L-Carnitine supplementation is also an option. L-Carnitine is an amino acid that increases energy and promotes muscle growth. You will need to eat regular meals because this amino acid doesn't curb appetite.

How to Use African Mango Extract

You can easily take mango extract. You just need to cut open a fresh ripe mango and scoop the flesh into your blender bottle. Blend until smooth.

You may also strain the pulp if you want a finer consistency. Store in a cool dark place.

The pulp can be frozen for future use. This way you don't have to buy another batch when mango season comes around again.

About our Guest:

Natalie Newhart has spent the last 15 years as an Online Nutrition and Fitness Coach for women over 30 who are tired of making their body goals so difficult to achieve and such a chore to maintain.

A former professional athlete and physique bodybuilder, she’s no stranger to dragging herself through workouts, forcing herself to follow “the plan” regardless of how she feels, and counting every single calorie, step and rep.

This way of being resulted in her in the hospital at the age of 30 and diagnosed with: hypothyroid, adrenal fatigue, stress-induced menopause, stress-induced diabetes, and rapidly gaining weight.

She was one of the fittest athletes in the world, and at the same time- one of the sickest. Doctors told her she needed to find a way to not stress if she wanted to gain her health and wellbeing back.

The traditional stress-management approach of walk more, meditate, and take naps failed to create any change, and didn’t serve her body goals either.

It wasn’t until she started to do the internal work on herself did she start to see the changes she was looking for.

For the last 6 years, she’s dedicated herself to mastering her body and mind. She’s trained with some of the world’s best psychologists, neurologists, female fat loss physicians, and even Shaolin monks!

She’s spent the last 15 years helping thousands of women bring an end to their obsessive dieting mindset, compulsive eating behaviors, and neurotic exercise habits by addressing the deep psychological relationship with food and fitness.

Unlike most fitness professionals, she understands that perpetual dieting and forced exercise is a personal issue that goes FAR beyond food, weight, and body goals.

Natalie’s coaching takes an untraditional approach to regaining control with food, rediscovering a love for movement and retraining the way we think about weight loss.

Natalie’s coaching is for those women who are done with being entertained by traditional diet strategies and is serious about making a REAL change – from the inside out. They don’t just want another short term fix- they want to MASTER their relationship with food and exercise.

Frequently Asked Questions

What beverage can overnight burn belly fat?

Drinking plenty of water is the best method to lose weight quickly. Drinking enough water can help you lose calories and make you feel fuller longer. You will also be less likely to snack and eat high-calorie foods. Water flushes toxins from your system and helps keep your skin young and healthy.

For most people, skipping meals is the best thing to do when dieting. Skipping meals slows down your metabolism, and you will eat more later as you don't feel hungry. Instead, eat smaller meals more often.

If you find yourself craving snacks, try drinking more water. You will feel less hungry and have a greater desire for sugary drinks. To enhance the detoxifying properties of your water, add a squeeze of lemon to it.

Drinking water can promote weight loss because it makes you feel fuller, faster, and helps you feel fuller. Research shows that people who have eight glasses of water per day tend to be less overweight than those who have only four. This is because water helps you feel full without adding calories.

Wait about 30 minutes after you wake up to have anything to eat. After just 10-15 minutes of awakening, hormones like insulin start to regulate blood sugar levels. These hormone surges can often cause hunger. We can avoid crashing and a surge in blood sugar by waiting until it happens.

Consider having a midmorning snack after your breakfast. A snack between lunch or dinner can prevent you from overeating later on in the day. You can try a piece of fruit, or whole grain toast with peanut butter.

Try not to eat too close to bedtime. Studies show that our bodies metabolize nutrients better when we sleep, so staying slim is easier if we get an early night.

Do not starve yourself to death before going to bed. You should eat a light meal an hour before you go to bed. You might be amazed at how many calories you'll need to get to sleep.

Consider adding green tea to your daily diet. Green tea is rich in catechins which are plant compounds, which reduce inflammation and speed up metabolism. A study published in the Journal of Nutrition showed that participants who drank three cups of green tea daily lost more weight than those who didn't. And another study found that men who consumed green tea increased their metabolic rates by 3 percent over 12 weeks.

Is African Mango Extract Caffeine-Free?

An average person's caffeine intake was measured. The results were surprising.

A cup of coffee contains around 100 mg of caffeine, while a small glass of cola contains around 40mg. What if you could drink caffeine with no calories?

This is where African mango extract comes into play! It is a great source of energy, with the same benefits as caffeine, but without sugar or calories.

African mango extract also helps increase focus and concentration and improves brain function.

What is the Work of African Mango Extract?

The high vitamin A content in mango fruit helps to boost the immune system. It also contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as potassium and magnesium.

These nutrients work together to keep cells and tissues healthy throughout the body.

In addition, African mango has been shown to increase energy levels and endurance during exercise. This is because it supports cardiovascular function and metabolism.

The active ingredient in this product works by increasing blood flow to the brain and muscles. This improves mental clarity and physical performance.

African mango extract can not only increase energy levels but also prevent muscle cramps from occurring after exercise. This can be extremely helpful for athletes that need to perform at their peak.

How To

African Mango: The Nutrients, Benefits and Downsides

Mangoes, an exotic fruit, are a tropical crop. They can now be grown all over the globe. Mangoes are nutritious fruits rich in vitamin C, potassium, fiber, calcium, and iron. They also contain antioxidants, such as beta-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, lycopene, and alpha-tocopherol.

The mango tree grows best between 15degC (59degF) and 30degC (86degF). When fully ripe the mangoes are yellowish green. Unripe mango flesh is tender and juicy, but it becomes firmer and more dry as it ripens.

Mangoes are used to make jams. In India, mango pulp goes into curries and rice dishes. It is also used to flavor stir-fried vegetables in Thailand. Mangoes can either be eaten fresh or dried.

Healthy Vegetables & Fruits

Since ancient times, mangoes were used to treat diabetes. Mangoes are now grown throughout the globe. There are many varieties of mango trees, including Alphonso, Ataulfo, Beni Suef, Bombay, Chaunsa, Coorg, Dusshera, Duronto, Florida, Kent, King, Langra, Lata, Madhuca, Mataral, Meenakshi, Muttum Varieties, Pampas, Parambikulam, Pasupuletika, Phomopsis, Ponnavan, Puttaparthi, Red Dusshera, Rishiraj, Sivamani, Tari, Tommy Atkins, Uthappam, Vadagali, Vanigai, and Warna.

Mangoes can help you lose weight because they're high in water content and low in calories. A medium-sized mango has about 100 calories and only 3 grams of fat. This makes them one of the healthiest fruits around.

Mangoes have vitamins B1, 2, B3, B5, BB6, C,E,K, magnesium, copper, manganese and folate.

Mangoes are rich in phytochemicals. These plant compounds protect cells from damage due to free radicals. Free radicals, unstable molecules that can cause cell injury, are unstable molecules. Mangoes are especially good at protecting your heart, brain, and eyes.

Mangoes may be helpful for people who want to lose weight because they are high in water content. Water is essential for maintaining your body's hydration and keeping you satisfied longer.

Organifi green juice vs. Athletic Greens (AG1)

Sharing a full blog post showcasing the differences between Organifi green juice and AG1 and how I use them in my routine.

Hi friends! How are ya? I hope you’re having a wonderful week. It’s been a good one over here, except for the fact that half of the family is sick with colds. I’m knocking on wood, eating whole cloves of garlic, and following my usual immune boost protocol (when family members are sick or I’ve been exposed). Some of the things I do are in this post – I need to update it!

I also have to give credit to a couple of things that I use in my routine that I think have helped keep my immune system strong: Organifi green juice and Athletic Greens (aka AG1). I use and love both of these, so I thought today I’d share some of the benefits of these amazing products, the differences, and compare them.

Organifi green juice vs. Athletic Greens (AG1)

Benefits of drinking a daily greens powder:

TBH, it can be really hard to get the nutrients we need from food alone. You have to be strategic about it, and this can be especially challenging if you’re juggling a lot of other things. A majority of us aren’t calculating our B2 needs throughout the day and if we’ve hit it, you know what I mean? A powder can help us fill in the gaps, especially with certain vitamins and minerals.

I LOVE greens powders like this because they often contain a mix of vitamins, minerals, superfoods, probiotics, and adaptogens, which can help our bodies to fight off damage from toxins and environmental exposure, improve immune health, restore gut function, and improve stress response.

The downside:

A majority of greens powders are disgusting. I’ve tried SO many, and a majority of them taste like you’re chewing on a tree. They’re bitter, earthy, chalky, and unpalatable. This can discourage so many people from adding green powder to their routine.

Here are two that I absolutely love! They source high-quality ingredients and put an extreme amount of care into creating these superfood powders.

They serve different purposes, they taste different, and you can choose which one you want to try, based on your goals and preferences. *As always, talk with a doctor before adding any new supplements to your routine. I’m not a doctor and this is not medical advice.

AC_prod_tran_2-10.png

Organifi green juice features:

Organifi Green Juice is a blend of 11 superfoods, including chlorella, spirulina, and wheatgrass. It’s designed to help detoxify your body and boost your immune system, all while providing a burst of energy. This powder is perfect for busy women who need a quick and easy way to get their greens in on the go. Simply mix it with water and drink up!

Nutrients in Organifi:

Taste of Organifi green:

Sweet, a little minty with a hint of lemon. They also have a Crisp Apple flavor, which tastes like a real apple; not a Jolly Rancher. I like it, but prefer the original.

MO_amat_03-5.jpg

AG1 details:

AG1 is a superfood powder created by Athletic Greens. It contains 75 whole-food-sourced ingredients, including probiotics and digestive enzymes. This powder is designed to support gut health, aid digestion, and provide a natural energy boost. It’s perfect for women who want to optimize their overall health and wellness.

Ingredients in AG1:

Taste of AG1:

Not as sweet as Organifi Green, has more of a light pineapple flavor, and the texture is a little thicker (more like a vitamin/supplement drink than a juice). Use a frother to mix it up!

MO_amat_02-3.jpg

The main differences between AG1 and Organifi Green Juice:

So which one should you choose? It depends on your specific goals and needs. If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to get your daily dose of greens and boost your energy levels, Organifi Green Juice is a great choice. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a comprehensive superfood powder that supports gut health and overall wellness, AG1 is the way to go.

Both Organifi Green Juice and AG1 are great options for women who want to prioritize their health and fitness. They’re easy to incorporate into your daily routine and can provide a host of benefits. I love the taste of both of them and have noticed a positive difference in my energy levels since I added them to my routine.

How To Use Organifi Green Juice

I only take AG1 every 3-4 days or so. This is because it has SO MANY vitamins and nutrients and some I think would be a little too excessive to take every day. (It’s worth mentioning here that I did take it every day for about a month when I was first trying it out, and I felt AMAZING. I just don’t think it would be a good idea for me to do it for the very long term.) The thing with vitamins and supplements is that you need to phase them in order to feel the effects. It can also help to “teach” your body what it needs without depending on the supplement forever. Some supplements will lose their effectiveness over time. (I learned this the hard way lol. If you’re curious about more details, check out the book Dirty Genes; he does an excellent job of explaining this.)

On the other days, I take Organifi Green. This way, I’m rotating the nutrients a bit.

I drink both of these mixed into water, on an empty stomach, about 30 minutes before breakfast.

Does Athletic Greens Have Caffeine?

So, is there caffeine in Athletic Greens? The answer is yes, but don’t sweat it just yet!

Athletic Greens contain a small amount of natural caffeine from matcha green tea, which is used to enhance energy and focus without the jittery feeling that can come from synthetic sources of caffeine. This means that you can still enjoy the many benefits of Athletic Greens, such as being a great source of vitamins sourced from organic ingredients and containing 7.2 billion probiotics, without worrying about overdoing it on the caffeine. Plus, it’s important to note that Athletic Greens also contain other ingredients such as coconut water and monk fruit, which can provide natural sources of energy and sweetness without caffeine. So don’t worry, you can still get your green superfood powder fix without having to sacrifice your caffeine preferences.

In comparison to Organifi Green Juice, Athletic Greens offer similar benefits with the added bonus of being made in a GMP-certified facility and having FDA approval. Additionally, Athletic Greens have a unique taste that many users prefer over the typical “green” Organifi taste. So there you have it- a little bit of caffeine from matcha green tea in Athletic Greens shouldn’t be a worry for you.

I have special links for ya for both of these if you decide to try out one or the other!

Use this link and the code FITNESSISTA for 20% off of Organifi products. (I also love the Red Juice, Harmony, and Immunity)

Use this link to get 5 free travel packs of AG1 and a year’s supply of Vitamin D3/K2.

Have you tried either of these? What are your thoughts??

Are daily green leafy vegetables worth it?

The answer will vary depending on what you mean with "worth." But, cost-effectiveness is a different question.

If you're looking at the long-term costs (e.g., will they save me money over the next 10 years), there isn't any evidence suggesting that eating them regularly is beneficial.

But if you consider the short-term cost (e. Do I get a better waistline? If so, then I would say it is worthwhile.

This question, I believe, is fascinating because it touches upon two important aspects about nutrition - cost-effectiveness as well as health benefits. There is strong evidence to suggest that regular intake of fruits and veggies reduces the chance of developing certain types of cancer. On the other hand, the evidence for cost-effectiveness is less conclusive.

You can't decide whether healthy food is worth the effort if you consider both. This is the Health Economic Assessment. It is the process of assessing the expected health outcomes for different food types, and the associated costs to purchase these foods.

Which natural product can help you lose weight the most?

The most effective way to lose weight is by eating less food while exercising regularly. But, exercising alone will not help you reach your goal. This is because food is necessary for our bodies to function correctly. It's possible to gain weight if you eat too much food. Eating enough food can also lead to weight loss.

When selecting the best foods to help you lose weight, it is essential that you select foods with high nutritional value and low calories. These include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, fish, nuts, and seeds.

What is an African mango?

British explorers discovered the fruit during an expedition into Africa. It has been grown for centuries throughout South America. However, due to climate change as well as deforestation, its current production is in decline.

The African Mango Project attempts to reverse this decline by developing sustainable ways of growing East African mangoes.

They are also working toward creating local jobs, and improving the livelihoods in communities around plantations.

Their goal is to produce the first commercial crop in five years.

Just how to make sprouts in the house

Sharing my tips on making your own sprouts. It’s so easy to do at home and much cheaper than buying them at the store!

Hi friends! How are you? I hope you’re having a lovely morning! I hope my US friends had an amazing 4th of July.

Today I wanted to chat about something I’ve been making at home and enjoying for the past few months: sprouts!

So, what is sprouting and why would you do it?

Sprouting is the process of germinating seeds or grains, typically by soaking them in water and allowing them to grow into sprouts. This process has been used for centuries to make food more nutritious and easier to digest. In this blog post, I’m sharing the details on how to make sprouts at home and sharing some of the benefits of these tasty little sandwich and salad additions.

GojiBerry500_amat_3a.jpg

How to Make Sprouts at Home

Making sprouts at home is easy and requires minimal equipment. It only takes a few days and is so much less expensive than buying them at the store.

Here’s how to get started:

Choose your seeds or grains:

There are a wide variety of seeds and grains that can be sprouted, including alfalfa, mung beans, lentils, quinoa, and more. Choose a seed or grain that is organic and specifically labeled for sprouting. I get all of mine from NOW Foods; you can use FITNESSISTA20 for 20% off. I got my sprouting jar from NOW, too!

GojiBerry500_amat_1-2.jpg

Rinse your seeds or grains:

Rinse your seeds or grains in cool water and remove any debris or broken pieces.

Soak your seeds or grains:

Soak your seeds or grains in a jar or bowl with cool water for several hours or overnight. The amount of time required will depend on the type of seed or grain you are using.

Drain and rinse your seeds or grains:

Drain the water from your seeds or grains and rinse them thoroughly with cool water.

Repeat:

Repeat steps 3 and 4 several times a day until your seeds or grains have sprouted. This usually takes 2-7 days depending on the seed or grain. As they dry each day, I place them in the pantry, inverted onto a paper towel so they can drain all the way each day.

Store your sprouts:

Once your sprouts have grown to the desired length, rinse them once more and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. If you want to add a little more *green* to your sprouts, place the jar outside in indirect sunlight for a few hours before rinsing and storing.

Benefits of Sprouting

There are many benefits to sprouting, including:

Increased Nutritional Value:

Sprouts are highly nutritious and contain vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and enzymes that are easily absorbed by the body.

Improved Digestion:

Sprouting can improve digestion by breaking down complex carbohydrates and reducing the presence of anti-nutrients, which can interfere with nutrient absorption.

Lowered Cholesterol:

Some studies have shown that sprouts can help lower cholesterol levels, which can reduce the risk of heart disease.

Reduced Inflammation:

Sprouts are also high in antioxidants, which can help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the body.

In conclusion, sprouting is an easy and affordable way to increase the nutritional value of your food and they’re tasty, too 😉

Have you tried making sprouts before? Would you??

xoxo

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to eat carbs and still follow the Ketogenic Diet

Yes, you can eat carbohydrates while on the Ketogenic Diet. But, limit them to a very small amount. Instead, focus on eating high-fiber veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, kale, zucchini, peppers, cucumbers, celery, tomatoes, onions, etc. These foods will provide you with enough calories without causing weight gain.

You should also eat lots of nuts, seeds, avocados and coconut oil. These foods contain a lot of saturated fats that are important for ketosis.

Is there any side effect to African Mango Extract use?

African mango extract has not been associated with any side effects. This product may cause diarrhea or stomach upset in some individuals. If this occurs, discontinue use immediately and consult your physician.

How can you slim down naturally?

It is important to eat healthy food as often and as often as you can. When you do have unhealthy snacks, make sure they are low-calorie. Avoid eating too many processed foods. Choose whole grains such as brown rice, barley, and oatmeal for your breakfast. Sugary drinks are high in calories, and can cause weight gain. Watch what you are drinking if you want to lose weight. Drink at least eight glasses of water per day.

Another tip? Get up early. Research has shown that people who rise earlier in the morning tend to consume less calories throughout the day. Set an alarm clock to ensure you don't snooze through the day.

Exercising is also important. Aerobic exercise such as running and biking, swimming, swimming, tennis, and walking are all great options. Strength training does not burn fat as fast as aerobic exercise. Include aerobic exercise into your daily life.

What is African Mango Extract (Amango Extract)?

Vitamin C is found in high amounts, which can boost immunity. It is great for people who have the flu or are at risk of getting sick.

African mango extract is also rich in antioxidants, which help to lower the risk of developing cancer. This reduces the chance of developing cancer or heart disease.

Vitamins A & B6 are found in African Mango, which supports healthy hair growth.

African Mango's active ingredients are an effective supplement that will keep the skin looking and feeling great.

Friday Faves 6.30

Hi friends! Happy Friday! I hope you’re having a wonderful morning. I’m off to the eye doctor today and am crossing my fingers to get the all clear to start wearing contacts again. It’s been a bit hard to function in glasses for the past five weeks so I’m really, really hoping I’ll be able to wear my contacts, even just for a few hours each day.

We are back in Tucson after 12 days in Europe and it.was.magical. I’ll be posting a full recap of our trip, so stay tuned for all of the details! I’ll prob split it into two posts: Rome and the 7-night Italy and Greece Disney cruise. If you have any questions I can answer or include in my post(s), please let me know.

(I’ll dream about this tuna pizza foreverrrrrr. So salty and savoy and amazing)

Our trip! I have a lot to say about it, but it was such a gift to spend so much time together as a family, without the distractions of life, work, and chores. I pre-wrote eight beefy blog posts to auto-publish while I was gone, and it was amazing to be truly present and not have to focus on content creation. The Pilot also got to take a break from work, and we could just enjoy time together in some breathtakingly beautiful places! It was definitely the trip of a lifetime.

Fashion + beauty:

This athletic dress! I had to see what the hype was about, and it LIVES UP to it. The fabric is a dream, it has a built-in bra with soft, removable cups, and shorts, you know, if you actually want to be athletic in it. I wore my dress while lounging in Rome, eating chocolate croissants, and it served that purpose equally well. 😉 I’m ordering two more colors!

Sharing some more love for Vivobarefoots. I wore my white low-top ones this entire trip and they felt awesome. My referral link gets you 15% off.

A similar version of my fave visor.

Read, watch, listen:

Anyone else that can’t wait for the Barbie movie? It looks so fun and clever; like the perfect summer movie.

Just finished this book. It was sweet and intriguing. Not my fave of the summer – that goes to this one!! – but still a light and enjoyable read.

Fun movie ideas.

Fitness, health + good eats:

Thinking of attempting this gnocchi even though we all know it won’t be the same lol.

A total body barre workout.

More clues on how exercise can decrease inflammation.

Making this chocolate pie for our 4th of July bbq.

Today is the last day to use my code FITNESSISTA10 for 10% off at EquiLife. You can use this for the detox – we start as a community on July 10 – or any supplements you’ve been needing. It’s free shipping storewide right now, too!

What herb melts bodyfat?

While dieting isn't an option, it can be done with herbs. Many people have used herbs for this purpose throughout history. These herbs include: Green tea and Ginko Biloba; Ginger root; Ginseng, Hawthorne berry, Ginseng, Milk Thistle seeds, Mullein leaves, Rosemary leaf, St John's Wort. Turmeric, Valerian root, and Yohimbe bark.

Herbal remedies can be taken orally or applied topically. They provide nutrients that increase metabolic rate. These nutrients accelerate the breakdown of glycogen and lipids in the cell walls. The result is the release of free fatty acids into the bloodstream, which can be burned as fuel.

Many herbs have been proven to improve immunity and prevent disease. These herbal remedies are ideal for people who don't want to use drugs or undergo surgery.

Many people know the effectiveness of herbs and use them. Many people don’t realize the power of these natural substances. There are many places you can purchase herbs, including online, pharmacies, or health food stores. Most of the time, one dose will last for weeks.

A good example of an herb that works by increasing the metabolic rate is green tea. Green tea has epigallocatechin gallate, which is a compound that increases the activity in enzymes responsible to breaking down fats. EGCG has also been shown in studies to improve glucose tolerance. This means that it lowers the likelihood of developing diabetes.

Ginger root is another example. The ginger root acts like a stimulant. It stimulates metabolism and improves digestion. Ginger is also known to help eliminate toxins from your digestive system.

Other herbs that increase metabolism include ginseng, valerian root, licorice root and mullein leaf.

The best way to get herbs is to make teas. This allows the active ingredients of the herbs to enter the bloodstream more quickly and efficiently. It is important to take herbs internally with medical supervision. You should not apply herbs to your skin if you are going to be using them externally. You could inflict irritation on other parts of your body or cause damage.

Tips for healthy and balanced food digestion

Sharing my tips for healthy digestion and easy things you can add into your routine!

Today, let’s dive into a topic that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves: healthy digestion.

Our gut health plays a crucial role in our overall well-being, from energy levels to skin health, immune system function, nutrient absorption, and even mood. So, it’s time to give our bellies some love and embrace the power of good digestion!

Please keep in mind that this post is for information purposes and is not medical advice. If you struggle with digestion, reach out to your health care provider so they can provide individualized suggestions for your unique needs.

Tips for healthy digestion

1) Eat Mindfully:

Slow down and savor every bite. Take the time to chew your food thoroughly, allowing your saliva to mix in and kickstart the digestion process. This simple act of mindfulness can improve nutrient absorption and reduce bloating. When we eat mindfully, we are fully present in the moment, savoring each bite and paying attention to our body’s cues.

Here’s how this simple act can enhance your digestion:

  • Increased Chewing: Mindful eating encourages us to slow down and chew our food thoroughly. Chewing breaks down food into smaller particles, allowing our digestive enzymes to work more efficiently. The more we chew, the easier it is for our stomach to break down the food, reducing the strain on our digestive system.
  • Improved Nutrient Absorption: Mindful eating allows our bodies to better absorb nutrients from the food we consume. When we’re present and focused on our meal, our body’s ability to absorb vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients is optimized. This means we can reap the full benefits of the nourishing foods we consume.
  • Reduced Overeating: Mindful eating helps us tune in to our body’s hunger and fullness signals. By eating slowly and paying attention to our body’s cues, we are more likely to recognize when we are satisfied and avoid overeating. Overeating can lead to discomfort, bloating, and sluggish digestion, so being mindful of portion sizes can make a big difference.
  • Enhanced Digestive Enzyme Production: When we eat mindfully, our body’s digestive enzymes are produced more effectively. These enzymes help break down carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, making them easier to digest. By engaging in mindful eating, we optimize the production and release of these enzymes, promoting smoother digestion.
  • Reduced Stress Response: Mindful eating can help reduce stress, which has a direct impact on our digestion. When we eat in a relaxed state, free from distractions and stressors, our body’s “rest and digest” mode is activated. This allows our digestive system to function optimally, promoting better digestion, absorption, and elimination.

Fiber is Your Friend:

Incorporate fiber-rich foods into your diet, like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. Fiber helps regulate bowel movements, supports a healthy gut microbiome, and keeps you feeling full and satisfied.

Hydration is Key:

Stay hydrated throughout the day by sipping on water. Aim for at least 8 cups a day to keep things flowing smoothly. Add a squeeze of lemon for an extra digestive boost, or try experimenting with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Try not to chug water during your meals as it can reduce stomach acid needed for digestion and absorption. I like to drink most of my water before or after a meal instead of during the meal.

Probiotics for the Win:

Incorporate probiotic-rich foods like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and kimchi into your meals. These goodies introduce beneficial bacteria into your gut, promoting a healthy balance and aiding digestion. Probiotic supplements can be a good idea, too. Always check with a doctor before adding new supplements, but my favorite ones are from Sakara! (XOGINAH gets you 20% off)

Move That Body:

Exercise stimulates the muscles in your gastrointestinal tract, promoting regular and efficient movement of food through your digestive system. This enhanced gut motility can help prevent issues like constipation and promotes healthy bowel movements. It’s also a stress reliever. Try to get 30 minutes most days of the week. How much cardio do you need? I answer that in this post!

Spice Up Your Life:

Incorporate herbs and spices like ginger, turmeric, and fennel into your cooking. These natural wonders can help reduce inflammation, improve nutrient absorption, soothe the digestive tract, and alleviate bloating.

Stress Less, Digest Better:

Stress can wreak havoc on our digestive system. Practice stress-management techniques like deep breathing, yoga, or meditation to calm the mind and relax the gut.

Here’s more about how stress can affect digestion:

  • Flight Response: When we’re stressed, our body enters a state of “fight or flight.” During this response, blood flow is redirected away from our digestive system and towards our muscles and organs involved in immediate survival. This shift can slow down digestion, leading to discomfort, bloating, and even constipation.
  • Reduced Enzyme Production: Stress can disrupt the production and release of digestive enzymes, which are essential for breaking down food and aiding in nutrient absorption. When enzyme production is compromised, it can result in poor digestion and absorption of nutrients, leading to potential deficiencies and digestive discomfort.
  • Altered Gut Motility: Stress can influence the movement of food through our digestive tract. It can cause changes in gut motility, leading to either slowed or accelerated transit time. This disruption can contribute to issues like diarrhea, constipation, or irregular bowel movements.
  • Imbalanced Gut Microbiota: Our gut is home to trillions of bacteria that make up our gut microbiota. Stress can disrupt the balance of these beneficial bacteria, leading to an imbalance in the gut microbiome. This imbalance can affect digestion, nutrient absorption, and even our immune system, potentially leading to digestive issues and overall health challenges
  • Increased Sensitivity: Stress can make our digestive system more sensitive and reactive. It can exacerbate existing digestive conditions like irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease.

Listen to Your Body:

Pay attention to how certain foods make you feel. Everyone’s digestion is unique, so honor what works best for you. If you notice discomfort or bloating after certain meals, consider eliminating or reducing those foods from your diet. Keep a checklist of how certain foods affect you so you can determine patterns and create your unique action plan.

Remember, it takes time to find what works best for your body. Be patient, and don’t be afraid to experiment with different foods and lifestyle habits. Your belly will thank you!

I hope this post was helpful for ya 🙂

Have a wonderful day and I’ll see ya soon!
xoxo
