Xmas Workout Obstacle: 12 Days of Vacation Workouts

Is it just us or does it feel like Halloween was just yesterday? And yet here we are, already in the throes of the winter holidays. If you’re anything like us, you absolutely love the holidays. But what you don’t love is the impact they can have on the healthy habits you work so hard to stick to. Our Christmas Workout Challenge can help you stay in shape and maintain your healthy habits throughout the season.

Doesn’t it feel like, despite your best efforts, your clean diet flies out the window the second talk turns to the holidays? Food-packed festivities mean your healthy eating regimen can take quite a hit. And while there are plenty of tried and true strategies for minimizing the diet damage—bringing your own healthy dishes, loading up on water and focusing on family and fun instead of food—the reality is, all of the celebrations can take a toll.

That’s why it’s especially important to keep up with your exercise routine this time of year. While the uptick in social events and errands (we’re looking at you, present-shopping procrastinators!) mean that you’ll probably have less time to squeeze in super long sweat sessions, there’s good news: You don’t need to spend hours in the gym to reap the benefits of exercise this holiday season. Getting moving, even just a few minutes each day, can be all it takes to preserve the fitness you’ve been working so hard to build. It can also help neutralize some of the indulgences that top your holiday table.

While the holidays may not be the time to expect quick weight loss, they don’t have to undo all of your hard-earned progress. If you are smart about your indulgences, follow your Nutrisystem meal plan and stick to a holiday workout routine, you can maintain your weight loss throughout the season.

That’s why we put together this Christmas Workout Challenge. With this holiday workout plan, you’ll alternate between cardio moves designed to get your blood pumping and slower, more static moves designed to stretch you out and promote strength and balance. By the time the big holiday rolls around, you’ll feel fit and fabulous!

Please note: Always consult with your doctor before trying any new workout plan.

If you are looking for great health benefits, but without compromising on flavor, try adding mango extract into your favorite recipes.

It is important to eat healthy food as often and as often as you can. When you do have unhealthy snacks, make sure they are low-calorie. Avoid eating too many processed foods. Instead, choose whole grains such oatmeal, barley or brown rice for breakfast. Sugary drinks are high calories and high sugar. You can lose weight by limiting the amount of soda pop and juice you drink. Try to drink at least eight glasses of water each day.

Another tip: Get up earlier. Research has shown that people who rise earlier in the morning tend to consume less calories throughout the day. It's a good idea to set an alarm so you don’t fall asleep during the day.

Finally, exercise is also very important. Aerobic exercises such as running or biking, swimming or tennis are all excellent options. Aerobic exercise burns fat more quickly than strength training. You should incorporate aerobic activity into your daily routine.

Are there natural alternatives to prescription drugs such as Phentermine that suppress appetite?

L-Carnitine is another option. This amino acid promotes muscle development and energy levels. You will need to eat regular meals because this amino acid doesn't curb appetite.

Are there side effects from African Mango Extract usage?

There are no known side effects associated with taking African mango extract. However, it is essential to note that some individuals may experience stomach upset or diarrhea when using this product. This should be reported immediately to your physician.

What Is the DASH Diet? The Scientific Plan to Lower Blood Pressure

Have you been diagnosed with high blood pressure (hypertension) and been advised to cut back on your salt intake? High blood pressure affects more than a billion people worldwide and that number is rising. In fact the number of people suffering with high blood pressure has actually doubled in the past 40 years. According to AgeUK 16 million people in the UK suffer with high from high blood pressure and 63% of the population don’t even know their blood pressure numbers.

As diet is thought to play a major role in the development of high blood pressure, scientists have engineered specific dietary strategies to help reduce it. So let me introduce the DASH diet. In this article we will examine the DASH diet, how it works, the benefits and chat about how you can combat high blood pressure and reduce your risk of heart disease.

What is the DASH diet?

DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. The DASH diet is a healthy-eating plan designed to help treat or prevent high blood pressure (hypertension).

The DASH diet includes foods that are rich in potassium, calcium and magnesium. These nutrients help control blood pressure. The diet limits foods that are high in sodium, saturated fat and added sugars. Studies have shown that the DASH diet can lower blood pressure in as little as two weeks.

The DASH diet focuses on fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean meats. The diet was created after researchers noticed that high blood pressure was much less common in people who followed a plant-based diet, such as vegans and vegetarians. That’s why the DASH diet emphasises fruits and vegetables while containing some lean protein sources like chicken, fish and beans. The diet is low in red meat, salt, added sugars and fat.

Who is the DASH diet for?

  • Family friendly
Family members can easily eat the meals together with little or no modification. The food options are healthy and balanced enough for all ages.
  • Budget friendly
Foods for this diet are easy to find at a typical supermarket and don’t require expensive or specialty food items. You may find you don’t actually need to alter your diet that much.
  • Planet friendly
The diet considers the environmental effects of food choices. It’s predominantly plant-based, or the foods are mainly sustainably grown/produced.
  • Vegan or vegetarian-friendly
Individuals can easily modify recipes for a vegan or vegetarian diet.
  • Gluten-free friendly
Recipes can be easily modified and still follow a gluten-free diet.
  • Halal friendly
Recipes can be easily modified and still follow the diet.
  • Kosher friendly
Recipes can be easily modified and still follow the diet.
  • Low fat
The diet encourages a moderate consumption of healthy fats, like olive oil, and discourages unhealthy fats, such as saturated fats – with less than about 30% of total calories coming from fat.

What are the benefits of the DASH diet?

Beyond reducing blood pressure, the DASH diet offers a number of potential benefits such as:

  • Aid weight loss
  • Decreases cancer risk
  • Lowers metabolic syndrome risk
  • Lowers risk of diabetes
  • Decreases risk of heart disease
  • Improve sleep
  • Improve mental health
oatmeal-porridge-rustic-with-berries-dash-diet-o-2021-08-28-01-00-00-utc-1024x683.jpg

What will I eat on the DASH diet?

  • You will fill up on vegetables, fruits and whole grains.
  • Moderate amounts of fat-free or low-fat dairy products, fish, poultry, beans and nuts are included.
  • Foods high in saturated fat, such as fatty meats and full-fat dairy products, are strictly limited or avoided altogether.

How many calories should I be eating?

When we eat and drink more calories than we use up, our bodies store the excess as body fat. If this continues, over time we may put on weight. As a guide, an average man needs around 2,500kcal (10,500kJ) a day to maintain a healthy body weight. For an average woman, that figure is around 2,000kcal (8,400kJ) a day.
These values can vary depending on age, size and levels of physical activity, among other factors. To find out more about calories and losing weight with a calorie controlled plan please visit NHS.

Shopping tips for the DASH diet

Don’t be tempted by deals and bargain deals when visiting the supermarket. Follow these tips to stay focused on foods that support the DASH diet:

  • Buy fresh
Most of the salt in a typical diet comes from processed foods. Fresh foods are healthier choices because they contain less salt, as well as less added sugar and fat. Fresh foods also often have more health-promoting vitamins, minerals and fibre than their packaged counterparts do.
  • Skip processed foods
Avoid jar sauces, ready meals and frozen foods. These are tempting especially for families with children, but cooking from scratch with fresh items allows you to keep control on the amount of salt going into the meals.
  • Read labels
Most packaged foods in the U.K have a Nutrition Facts label that can help you figure out how they fit into your diet. Low sodium foods have 5% daily value or less of sodium per serving. Look for reduced sodium and fat products.

Food staples for starting the DASH diet

You’re more likely to prepare healthy dishes if you have healthy foods on hand. Try to keep these items in your kitchen:

  • Fruits
Choose a variety of fresh fruits, such as apples, oranges and bananas for snacking. Add variety with apricots, dates and berries. Select fruit canned in its own juice, not in heavy syrup, and frozen fruits without added sugar.
  • Vegetables
Buy fresh, frozen or canned vegetables, such as tomatoes, carrots, broccoli and spinach. Choose frozen vegetables without added salt or butter or sauces. Opt for canned vegetables low in sodium.
  • Low-fat dairy products
Look for lower fat dairy options when buying milk, cheeses, yogurt and sour cream.
  • Grains
Buy whole-grain varieties of bread, bagels, pitas, cereal, rice, pasta, crackers and tortillas. Compare labels and choose lower sodium items.
  • Nuts, seeds and legumes
Almonds, walnuts, kidney beans, lentils, chickpeas (garbanzos) and sunflower seeds are among the healthy options. But get unsalted or low-salt varieties.
  • Lean meats, poultry and fish
Opt for lean selections, such as fish, skinless chicken and turkey, pork tenderloin, extra-lean ground beef, and round or sirloin beef cuts. Choose lower sodium canned fish and meat. Limit smoked or processed meats, such as deli meats.
  • Condiments, seasonings and spreads
Herbs, spices, flavoured vinegars, salsas and olive oil can add zest to your meals without the salt overload. Choose low- or reduced-sodium versions of condiments.

Is Slimming World DASH friendly?

Actually yes, Slimming World promotes healthy plates full of fresh fruits and vegetables. Also leans cuts of meats. If you reduce your salt intake you could easily still follow the Slimming World plan alongside of the DASH diet.

The DASH diet summary

  • Decide on your calorie intake (either to maintain or lose weight)

Cleansing must eliminate all toxins from your system in order to be effective.

This could be because you aren't getting enough water or not eating right.

You might also want to reduce your salt intake and avoid caffeine.

Another reason you may not see results is:

  • Your digestive system isn't functioning correctly. This means your body is not absorbing the food you are eating.
  • You are not consuming enough protein. Protein helps build muscle tissue.
  • You are consuming too many carbs. Carbs are stored energy.
  • You're consuming too many sugars. Sugar can cause insulin spikes in the bloodstream. This slows down your metabolism.
  • Not enough fats are being consumed. Fats are needed to absorb certain vitamins.
  • Your diet is not sufficient in essential fatty oils (EFAs). It has been demonstrated that EFAs reduce inflammation.
  • You are consuming too little fiber. Fiber absorbs excess cholesterol. It also speeds up digestion.
  • Insufficient vitamin C is a problem. Collagen production cannot be achieved without Vitamin C. Collagen is essential for keeping skin elastic and firm.
  • You are eating too little. Portions should be measured using a standard cup measurer.
  • Your alcohol intake is excessive. Drinking alcohol is extremely drying.
  • You are consuming too high levels of caffeine. Too much caffeine is toxic for the liver.
  • Your magnesium intake is too low. Magnesium can be essential for healthy bones, muscles, and teeth.
  • You're consuming too little potassium. Potassium is needed to maintain fluid balance in your body.

What is an African Mango?

British explorers were the first to discover the fruit when they went on an expedition through Africa. It has been grown for centuries throughout South America. However, due to climate change as well as deforestation, its current production is in decline.

The African Mango Project is a project that aims to reverse this trend by developing sustainable methods for growing East African fruit.

They are also working towards creating local jobs and improving communities' livelihoods near plantations.

Their goal is to produce the first commercial crop in five years.

10 Healthy New Year's Resolutions You'll In fact Keep

Work out an hour a day! Lose 20 pounds! Stop eating cookies! These may sound like some of the overly-ambitious promises you make at the start of every year, only to break a few weeks later. Get-healthy goals are good, but only if you can actually keep them.

Here at Nutrisystem, our mission is to make healthy living easier. We want you to succeed at this. And this year, to help you get off to a successful start, we’re dishing out 10 New Year’s resolutions to consider making in 2023. They’re realistic and achievable, so you won’t abandon them in a month. Plus, they’ll help jumpstart your journey toward a happier, healthier you.

Here’s to the very best year yet! Check out these 10 New Year’s resolutions for a healthy 2023:

1. Aim to drop one to two pounds a week.

Evidence shows you’re more likely to keep the weight off when you lose it slowly and steadily, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). And as you work toward your ultimate goal, your effort along the way does your body good: Even a modest weight loss, such as five percent of your total body weight, can help improve blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels. A weight loss program like Nutrisystem can help you achieve this healthy rate of weight loss.

2. Walk more.

You’ve heard it a million times, and for good reason: It’s safe for most people, low-impact and requires nothing more than a pair of supportive shoes. Walking helps manage your weight, strengthen your body, and boost your mood; do it regularly and research suggests you’re likely to live longer. Begin with a slow stroll, for just a few minutes a day; then gradually build up your time and pace to the recommended 150 weekly minutes at a moderate-intensity. Break that up into small chunks if that’s more doable for you: Three, 10-minute brisk walks a day, five days a week.

3. Do body weight exercises.

Lunges, push-ups, crunches and squats: These equipment-free moves are a great way to add strength training to your routine. Regular strength training helps build lean muscle mass so you burn calories more efficiently; it also helps strengthen bones, manage your weight and sharpen thinking skills.

4. Add veggies to every meal.

That’s one way to help meet your “eat healthier” goal. Vegetables are low in calories, high in filling fiber and loaded with nutrients that may help reduce your risk of disease. And while you’re pretty good about getting some greens on your dinner plate, don’t skimp on other meals: In the morning, add spinach to an omelet or try smashed avocado on whole wheat toast; pile a lunch sandwich high with extra fixings (tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado) or use lettuce as a wrap (instead of bread); and during snack time, munch on carrots dipped in hummus or blend frozen broccoli or cauliflower into a fruit smoothie.

5. Practice deep breathing.

It’s one of the simplest and most effective ways to start meditating. Find a quiet spot, get in a comfortable position and focus all your attention on feeling and listening as you slowly inhale through your nostrils for a count of three, then exhale. Try placing your hand right below your navel so you can feel your belly rise and fall. Spending even a few minutes a day in meditation can help reduce stress and ease anxiety.

6. Sip water throughout the day.

Research has shown even mild dehydration can sap energy, reduce your ability to concentrate and negatively affect your mood. Plus, scientists from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found people who drank one, two or three more cups of water a day cut calories and reduced their consumption of saturated fat, sugar, sodium and cholesterol. One guideline we like at Nutrisystem is to drink a half ounce of water for every pound of weight you weigh (so divide your weight in half and drink that many ounces of water per day).

7. Schedule a physical.

Regular health exams can help find problems before they start, or earlier when your chances for treatment and cure are better, says the CDC. Talk to your doctor about what screenings or exams you may need, and when you need them. To make the most of your visit, compile your medical history, bring along any medications (including vitamins and supplements), prep a list of questions ahead of time, be specific with any symptoms you may be experiencing, and be honest so your doctor can better assess you.

8. Make time to volunteer.

When people contribute to their community or an organization they are passionate about, they lead happier lives, have lower rates of depression, and may even live a little longer than those who do not volunteer, according to a research review of more than 50 studies. Think about causes that are important to you, and research groups that deal with those issues. Also consider what you have to offer: if you love building or outdoor work, or have a knack for teaching kids, look for opportunities where you can use your skills.

9. Pace your drinks.

Especially around the holidays, all that toasting and cheersing could lead to one too many cocktails. One drink a day for women, two for men is considered light to moderate, and may even help protect against heart disease. But heavy drinking (more than three drinks on any day or more than seven per week; for men, more than four on any day or more than 14 per week) can actually hurt your heart and your liver, as well as raise your risk of depression and certain cancers, according to research. To help keep consumption under control at a party, pace yourself to no more than one alcoholic beverage per hour. Sip slowly, and space them out by making every other a non-alcoholic drink, such as water, soda or juice. Also, don’t drink on an empty stomach—alcohol is absorbed more slowly with food in your belly. And throughout the year, keep a drink diary: Note each drink before you drink it—on a card in your wallet, in a note on your smart phone, on your kitchen calendar, or wherever works for you. It may help you slow down, and shed light on any potential problem.

10. Set a bed-time alarm.

As odd as that may sound, the most important sleep strategy is to stick to a schedule—go to bed at the time every night, get up at the same time every morning. So set an alert to ring about a half hour before you plan to hit the sack to give you time to wind down, power off the laptop, put down the smart phone and get ready for bed. When you get into a regular sleep rhythm, you get better quality and more sound rest.

What herb melts body weight?

It may not be possible to lose weight without dieting but herbs are an excellent way to help you burn calories. Over the years, many people have used herbs to achieve this goal. There are many herbs that can be used for this purpose, including: Green tea (Ginko Biloba), Ginger root, Ginseng and Hawthorn berry; Milk Thistle seed; Mullein leaf; Rosemary, St John's Wort and Turmeric. Valerian root is also available. Yohimbe bark is another.

The herbs can be used topically or orally. They contain nutrients that increase the metabolic rate of the body. These nutrients speed up the breakdown of glycogen stores and lipids within the cell walls. This causes the release in the bloodstream of free fatty oils, which can then used to burn as fuel.

A variety of herbal remedies can also be used to prevent or boost immunity. They are great for people who do not want to take drugs or have surgery.

Many people use herbs to increase their effectiveness. Many people don't realize how powerful these natural substances can be. You can find herbs in health food stores, pharmacies, as well as online. Most of the time, one dose will last for weeks.

Green tea is a great example of a herb whose ability to increase metabolic rate can be seen. Green tea has epigallocatechin gallate, which is a compound that increases the activity in enzymes responsible to breaking down fats. EGCG has also been shown in studies to improve glucose tolerance. It reduces your risk of developing diabetes.

Ginger root is another example. Ginger root is a stimulant. It stimulates the digestive tract and increases metabolism. Ginger is also known to help eliminate toxins from your digestive system.

Other herbs that enhance metabolism include ginseng.

The best way to get herbs is to make teas. This allows active ingredients to be absorbed quickly and efficiently into the bloodstream. When taking herbs internally, ensure that you do so under medical supervision. If you plan to apply herbs externally to an area, be sure to do so under medical supervision. Other areas could be affected or inflamed.

Is African Mango Oil Safe to Use during Pregnancy?

Yes, African mango extract is safe to use during pregnancy. It can be safely used by women who are pregnant or have previously been pregnant.

If you are pregnant, it is a good idea to consult your doctor before taking this product.

African Mango Extract is Worth Trying

Mangoes have numerous health benefits. Mangoes are high in vitamin C, fiber and potassium. They also contain antioxidants which help prevent cancer-causing free radicals. These benefits make them an excellent choice for anyone looking to improve health.

Mangoes have another advantage: they taste great! This makes it easy to incorporate them into any meal.

You could add fresh mango slices to smoothies, oatmeal and yogurt. You can also use frozen mango cubes to top ice cream sundaes. It's also possible to use dried mango powder instead of sugar when baking cookies.

You can also add mango extract to your favourite recipes to get all the benefits of mango extract without compromising flavor.

Many people do not know that mango extract is made out of mango seeds. This means that it contains all the same nutrients found in whole mangos but doesn't have the sweetness of regular mango.

Why Do We Need Healthy protein? Just How Much Healthy Protein Do We Required To Build Muscular Tissue?

While strength training is important for building muscle, so is consuming the right amount of protein. If you wish to build muscle, there is no escaping the importance of protein.

close-up-of-man-making-protein-shake-after-exercis-2021-08-26-16-14-47-utc-1024x683.jpg

In this article we will discuss why we need protein to build muscle, why muscle is so important and how much protein intake we need to maximise muscle gain.

What is protein?

Protein is found throughout the body. It can be found in muscle, bone, hair, skin and virtually every other body part or tissue. It makes up the enzymes that power many chemical reactions and the hemoglobin that carries oxygen in your blood. At least 10,000 different proteins make you what you are.

Protein is made from twenty-plus basic building blocks called amino acids. Because we don’t store amino acids, our bodies make them in two different ways: either from scratch, or by modifying others.

Why do we need protein for muscle growth?

Protein is a macronutrient – a nutrient we need in larger quantities. As we mentioned above this macronutrient is made up of essential amino acids. These amino acids are important building blocks for our bodies’ cells and tissues, including muscle mass.

Our bodies are constantly building, maintaining, and repairing tissue. If we don’t consume enough protein then amino acids that are stored in our muscle tissue will be taken in order to meet these needs elsewhere, which is why we get muscle loss.

Amino acids are also used for muscle protein synthesis (MPS).
MPS simply put means repairing and maintaining the muscles after strenuous activity that causes micro-tears in our muscles. This is a very natural process that happens when we exercise our muscles. In turn it can lead to stronger muscles that are better adapted to the type of training that caused the tears such as body building.

MPS is the reason why both strength training and protein are crucial for building muscle mass. So think about it, if your goal is to gain muscle, you really need to be consuming a lot more protein than your body is breaking down.

Why is muscle important for weight loss?

Higher amounts of muscle help to increase your metabolism, helping you burn more calories around the clock even at rest. This is because muscle is more metabolically active than fat, meaning it requires more energy. So the quick answer is “gain muscle to lose more weight” this is why exercise and muscle gain is very important for weight loss.

How much protein do we need to to gain muscle?

According to the Public Health England, the recommended daily intake of protein is 45-55g.

However, it is important to remember that this is defined as the minimum amount of protein you should consume in order to prevent muscle loss, rather than the recommended maximum intake.

However if you are an adult whose goal is to build up muscle mass through exercise, then this intake is unlikely to be enough.

The optimum amount of protein for muscle-building appearing be around 1.2 g and 2 g per kg of body weight, which is the amount that most professional athletes aim to consume.

If you are following an extremley intense exercise regime, you may want to consider consuming around 2g per kg on a daily basis for the first 12 weeks of training. During this time, your body is most hard at work, breaking down muscle fibres, repairing micro-tears, and creating new structures in order to adapt to your exercise routine.

Try using our protein calculator below to help you work out your protein intake.

Exactly How Water Assists With Weight-loss Makeover-- Mdslim.com

As winter sets in and the weather grows colder, make sure you drink enough water while keeping up with medical weight loss in New Jersey.

It’s easy to remember to drink water when it’s warm out. As you sweat and trudge through the heat, your body reminds you with every step that you are in need of a drink. Though hot weather makes us need more water than we would otherwise, the bottom line is that your body needs water whatever the temperature is. New Jersey medical weight loss program will help you change your diet and exercise habits, but it is up to you to drink enough water every day to sustain your new healthy lifestyle.

To keep it up with your medical weight loss program goals & your exercise habits can’t exactly take a winter holiday. You might even find that going for a jog in the cold weather is a bit more enjoyable than fighting the heat during the summer. As you are maintaining your workout routine this winter, don’t forget to keep on top of your fluid levels.

When the snow starts to fall in Hackensack, you are probably more likely to grab your thermos of tea or coffee than you are your water bottle as you walk out the door. If you aren’t careful this habit of drinking caffeinated warm beverages all day can impede your weight loss with empty calories, as well as interfere with your hydration efforts. Caffeinated beverages can actually further dehydrate you, making you need even more water to maintain proper health and power through a workout.

Don’t ignore the signs of dehydration this winter! They often include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Thirst
  • Feeling lightheaded
  • Inability to focus
  • Fatigue
  • Dry skin

When you are working out this winter, dress in layers. However cold you are when you first get started, your body will inevitably warm up as you start to work out. When you are dressed in layers you can accommodate these changes in body temperature. You can also wear clothing made of moisture-wicking fabric so you don’t stay wet out in the cold.

Staying hydrated during the winter can help you stay healthy and on track with your Optifast weight loss goals. Ask your weight loss doctor how much water is ideal for your body size and activity levels. Most people need at least 64 ounces of water every day to maintain proper fluid levels.

Do smoothie cleanses work?

It is important to know if you are eliminating toxins from your body. You may have another problem if you don't.

For a cleanse to work, it must remove all the toxins from your system.

If this isn't happening, you either aren't drinking enough water or haven't been eating properly.

This could also indicate that you should reduce your intakes of salt and caffeine.

There are other possible reasons you might not see results.

  • Your digestive system isn't functioning correctly. This means that your body isn't absorbing what you are taking in.
