Homemade Healthy Protein Gelato

Sharing a recipe for homemade protein ice cream that’s rich and delicious; the perfect healthy dessert or protein-packed snack!

Hi friends! How is the day going? I hope you’re having a wonderful morning. How about a little ice cream for breakfast?

I have a super easy and delicious recipe to share with you today for homemade protein ice cream!

(I added peanut butter and chocolate chunks to this batch and it was a dreaaaaammmmmm)

Homemade Protein Ice Cream

We all know that protein is important. Not only is it the most satisfying macronutrient, protein is also the building block for our cells. It’s important in the fitness/health world because it can help us build and retain muscle, which is especially crucial as we age. We want to build and protect our muscle to help our bones and also protect our metabolism, as muscle is “hungrier” than fat and has a higher energy demand.

I tend to recommend around 1g per lb of ideal bodyweight (depending on SO many factors, like body composition, age, goals, preferred eating strategy, etc) but I like to aim for 1 palm-sized serving at each meal and snack.

This protein ice cream is a creamy and TASTY dessert, which packs an awesome serving of protein. It’s a great way to add variety to your protein sources while enjoying a sweet treat. I’m sharing the recipe with you today so you can recreate it at home!

Is Protein Ice Cream Healthy?

Protein ice cream is a great healthy treat, especially since this one includes some healthy fats (from coconut milk) and you can add any toppings you like, including peanut butter, nuts, or fruit. Please keep in mind that this should not be a substitute for *real* ice cream, if that’s what you’re craving. If you’re craving Ben and Jerry’s and try to make this as a substitute, it won’t fill the void for ya. 😉 Have some of the real deal, enjoy it, and move on with your life.

However, if you’re looking to add another protein-packed option to your day and would like something that tastes like a sweet treat, give this a whirl! You could absolutely eat it everyday as part of a balanced plan that includes lean protein, smart carbs, and healthy fats.

Ingredients

Protein powder of choice – whey protein and pea protein will work the best.  This step is important and make sure to use a protein powder you love! If you’re looking for ideas, try out Truvani or Now Foods (use FITNESSISTA for 20% off). Pick a protein powder that has a good texture and tastes good – this is crucial. You can use vanilla protein powder or chocolate protein powder, depending on what flavor ice cream you’d like to make.

Full-fat coconut milk – you can also use unsweetened almond milk BUT the coconut milk is going to give it the rich flavor and texture. If you are not dairy-free, you could absolutely use whole milk (which I recommend for flavor, texture, and nutrients over skim milk)

Vanilla

Sea salt

Stevia to taste* (You can also use maple syrup if you don’t like the taste of Stevia. I avoid other artificial sugars because the sugar alcohols upset my stomach)

For chocolate protein ice cream: 4oz semi sweet chocolate chips

How To make Homemade Protein Ice Cream

Step 1

Make sure that the bowl of your ice cream maker is frozen! If it’s not, get that ready the day prior to making the ice cream. You can also make the ice cream in a loaf pan, but it will have a different texture.

Step 2

In a saucepan on the stove, add the milk, chocolate chips, vanilla, and sea salt, and bring up to a simmer. As the chocolate chips melt, whisk in the protein powder. Dip a spoon into the mixture (make sure to let it cool before tasting!) and add any sweetener you’d like as needed.

Step 3

Pour the mixture into the ice cream maker and turn it on. It will take 20-30 minutes until it has the texture of soft serve. For a firmer ice cream, place the mixture into a loaf pan and freeze for 3-4 hours.

Step 4

Scoop out any servings you’d like and enjoy! Add any of the toppings or mix-ins below to customize your flavors!

Mix-ins and topping ideas:

Add 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract and crushed candy canes for a holiday-ish treat

Top with peanut butter or swirl some into the ice cream maker

Add chocolate chips or melt some chocolate chips on top

Swirl in some fruit jam

Top with fresh berries

Mix some ground espresso beans into the ice cream maker (and use coffee instead of water!)

Add almond extract to the vanilla protein ice cream for a beautiful almond flavor and top with sliced almonds

Add unsweetened shredded coconut and pecans

Here is the full recipe!

How To

How can you lose weight if you don't exercise or eat right?

The best way to lose weight naturally is to increase your metabolism so you burn fat faster than you store it. Metabolism plays a large role in how much energy we use versus how many calories we burn. Good news: You don't have a need to exercise to boost your metabolism. It's easy to make simple lifestyle changes that will help you increase your metabolic rate. Here are some great tips.

  1. Eat More Protein - Eating protein helps steady blood sugar levels and supports muscle growth. In addition, research shows eating protein before meals can reduce food intake by up to 20%.
  2. Drink more water. Water helps to keep your body hydrated. It makes you feel fuller longer and reduces hunger cravings. Drinking eight glasses of water daily is a good way to increase your metabolism and digestion.
  3. Reduce Sugar Consumption - This is one of the best ways to lose weight. Sugary foods will cause insulin to be released, which can make it difficult to burn fat. Avoid sugary sweets and sodas. Instead, drink plenty and eat plenty fruits.
  4. Get Enough Sleep - Getting enough sleep has been shown to boost brain function and overall health, including improved glucose tolerance. It's also been proven to lower appetite hormones, such as leptin and ghrelin.
  5. Cardio Daily – Cardio exercise burns extra calories every day. You can start walking for 30 minutes, three times per week, if you don't want to stop. This will raise your heart rate and improve cardiovascular fitness.
  6. Get Moving Every Day - It is vital to lose weight by staying active. There are many ways to add movement to your day without going crazy. Take the stairs, not the elevator. Park further away when you shop. Walk around while on the phone. Stand during meetings and calls. Take regular breaks throughout the day for deep breathing and stretching.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I consume to detoxify?

High fiber foods are necessary to cleanse your system. This helps to move waste from your digestive system into the colon. They are then excreted as stool. Whole grains and beans, as well as fruits and vegetables, are some of the foods rich in dietary Fiber.

Caffeine and alcohol should be avoided as they stimulate your nervous system. This can lead to increased bowel movements. Your gut's beneficial bacteria may be replenished by probiotics. Probiotic supplements contain live cultures made up of healthy microorganisms (bacteria). These bacteria aid in digestion by producing short chain fatty acids, such as butyrate.

Butyrate is an essential nutrient for intestinal health. It stimulates cell growth and provides fuel for immune cells.

Drink ginger tea if you suffer from diarrhea. Gingerols are compounds that inhibit the production prostaglandins. These chemicals are produced during inflammation. Prostaglandin inhibitors reduce inflammation, so ginger has been used to treat arthritis, menstrual cramps, nausea, and indigestion.

Insomnia relief can also be achieved by drinking hot water prior to bedtime. Hot water can increase blood flow to the skin and help to relax muscles. It is believed that hot water may improve sleep quality.

Not everyone has to cut down on coffee. Reduce your intake of coffee and other caffeinated beverage. Reduce your consumption of soda, juice, or alcohol. Reduce your total calories by eliminating one meal at a stretch until you have reduced your total calories consumption by 20%.

African Mango Extract: Should You Use It?

Mangoes have numerous health benefits. Mangoes are rich in vitamin B, fiber, potassium, iron and magnesium. They also have antioxidants that protect against the formation of free radicals that can cause cancer. These properties make them an excellent choice if you are looking to improve your health.

Mangoes have another advantage: they taste great! These mangoes are easy to include in any meal.

You could add fresh mango slices to smoothies, oatmeal and yogurt. Or try using frozen mango cubes as a topping on ice cream sundaes. You can also use dried mango powder as an alternative to sugar in baking cookies.

Add mango extract to your favorite dishes to enjoy all of these wonderful benefits.

This is a fact that not many people are aware of. Mango extract is made from the seeds of mangos rather than the actual fruit. This means that it doesn't contain the same nutrients found as whole mangos. However, it does not have the sweetness of regular mangos.

How can i suppress my appetite

You can stop eating when hungry by eating small, frequent meals throughout the day and not just three big meals at mealtimes. This will stabilize your blood sugar and reduce hunger pangs.

You might find that drinking lots and taking herbal supplements like bitter melon or ginger works better than eating food.

Avoid foods high in carbs like bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, as they can give you a short boost that then leads to a crash.

Instead, opt for protein-rich foods such as lean meats, fish, eggs, nuts, and legumes. These will provide sustained energy and help keep your blood sugar levels stable.

Avoid sugary snacks such as cakes, chocolate bars, cookies, juice, and doughnuts. These can make you feel hungry and bloated.

You should instead choose healthier options, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, salads, whole grain cereals, or whole grains.

So if you're trying to lose weight, then don't rely on fad diets or miracle supplements.

It's easy to take mango extract. You just need to cut open a fresh ripe mango and scoop the flesh into your blender bottle. Blend until smooth.

You can also strain the pulp to obtain a finer consistency. Store in a cool dark place.

Frequently Asked Questions

What herb melts body weight?

While it is not possible to lose weight with diet, herbs can be a great way to burn calories. Many people have used herbs for this purpose throughout history. There are many herbs that can be used for this purpose, including: Green tea (Ginko Biloba), Ginger root, Ginseng and Hawthorn berry; Milk Thistle seed; Mullein leaf; Rosemary, St John's Wort and Turmeric. Valerian root is also available. Yohimbe bark is another.

Orally, herbal remedies can also be applied topically. They are rich in nutrients that can increase metabolic rate. These nutrients increase the rate at which glycogen stores are broken down and lipids within cells. This results in the release of free fat acids into the bloodstream which can be used as fuel.

A variety of herbal remedies can also be used to prevent or boost immunity. They are great for people who do not want to take drugs or have surgery.

Many people use herbs because they know how effective they are. Some people don't realize the power these natural substances have. You can buy herbs online, in pharmacies and at health food stores. Most of the time, one dose will last for weeks.

Green tea is a great example of a herb whose ability to increase metabolic rate can be seen. Green tea has epigallocatechin gallate, which is a compound that increases the activity in enzymes responsible to breaking down fats. EGCG has also been found to improve glucose tolerance. This reduces the chance of developing diabetes.

Ginger root is another example. Ginger root is a stimulant. It stimulates metabolism and improves digestion. Ginger helps eliminate toxins from our digestive system.

Other herbs that improve metabolism include ginseng (licorice root), mullein Leaf, rosemary and turmeric.

Most herbs can be taken as teas. This allows active ingredients to be absorbed quickly and efficiently into the bloodstream. Take herbs internally only if you are under medical supervision. If you decide to use herbs externally, ensure that you only apply them to the area. You could inflict irritation on other parts of your body or cause damage.

What can I drink for weight loss and detox?

Water helps to flush out toxins. Water is essential for healthy hair and skin. When you are feeling thirsty, drink lots of water throughout the day. Water aids in digestion and flushes out excess sodium.

Green tea is a great alternative to alcohol if you are looking to cut down on alcohol consumption. Green tea has catechins, which reduce stomach fat and caffeine stimulates metabolism.

Can I eat carbs while on the Ketogenic diet?

You can eat carbohydrates on the Ketogenic diet. But, limit them to a very small amount. Instead, focus on eating high-fiber veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, kale, zucchini, peppers, cucumbers, celery, tomatoes, onions, etc. These veggies will fill you up and not add calories.

You should also eat lots of nuts, seeds, avocados and coconut oil. These foods are high levels of saturated fats, which is necessary for ketosis.

Which natural product is the best for weight loss

It is best to eat less and exercise regularly in order to lose weight. But, exercising alone will not help you reach your goal. Because food is essential for the body to function properly, this is why exercise alone won't help. This means that if we eat too much, we are more likely to gain weight. On the other hand, if we don't eat enough food, we're also at risk of losing weight.

You should choose foods that have low calories and high nutritional values when you are trying to lose weight. These include fruits, vegetables and whole grains as well as lean meats, fish and nuts.

How can you lose weight in just 7 days at home?

Regular exercise, a healthy diet, and a lot of water are all good ideas. It's easy! It is tempting to skip meals. This is not a good idea. You will feel hungry later, so skip meals.

You don't have to starve yourself. Be aware of how much calories you are consuming, and then gradually increase it. If you eat approximately 2,000 calories per day, increase that number by 500 calories each day. This means that you will be adding 1,500 calories per day to your daily diet.

For more specific advice, you can consult numerous online resources. Google is a great search engine. Enter "how can I lose weight fast" into Google to find hundreds upon results.

You might consider visiting your local library to learn more about the topic. You can often find free weekly seminars that feature diet experts discussing various topics related to weight reduction.

What Is Acid Reflux?

What Is Acid Reflux? & 10 Smart Diet Tips To Relieve Acid Reflux

Are you experiencing frequent burning pain in the chest after having your meals? Does regurgitation of sour liquid or food irritate you often? If these are your concerns, you might be suffering from acid reflux. Acid reflux is the discomforting condition which results when stomach acid flows back into your esophagus, which connects your throat to your stomach. When acid reflux occurs frequently, it’s called GERD (gastroesophageal reflux). While conventional treatment involving antacids may offer you relief, it’s temporary and may make you suffer from side effects when you use it for a long span. Fortunately, dietary modifications can help you treat the condition naturally and safely with no adverse effects. So, you might be wondering what symptoms of acid reflux are, what causes the overproduction of acid in the stomach, what are the types of acid reflux or GERD, and what foods you should include in your diet plan for acidity and gas for relief, aren’t you? Learn everything about this by reading this blog below

Symptoms of Acid Reflux/GERD

Here are some common symptoms of acid reflux.

  • Frequent heartburn

  • Sour taste in the mouth

  • Chronic hoarseness of the voice

  • Recurrent cough

  • Aspiration (food rising through the esophagus and returning down the trachea)

  • Trouble while swallowing

  • Dental issues

  • Bloating

  • Nausea

What Causes Overproduction of Acid in the Stomach?

Excess stomach acid results due to:

  • Helicobacter pylori

  1. pylori is a kind of bacteria which damages the tissues of your duodenum and stomach. If you suffer from acute H. pylori bacterial infection in your stomach, it can lead to an increase in stomach acid. Chronic infection is also responsible for increased stomach acid levels.
  • Stress

Stress inhibits gastric emptying and disrupts gastrointestinal function. It can also deplete prostaglandins which safeguard the lining of the stomach from gastric acid, thereby increasing your chances of developing ulcers.

  • Ulcers

They are commonly observed in people who take high doses of NSAIDs, are infected with H. pylori, and have high-stress levels. All these factors contribute to the increased production of stomach acid.

  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

In people suffering from rare inherited genetic issues, such as multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1, happen to have hormone-secreting neuroendocrine tumours called gastrinomas. These tumours produce gastrin, which is a hormone that stimulates the production of stomach acid. The combination of a lot of stomach acid due to high levels of gastrin and the development of ulcers in the small intestine or stomach characterizes ZES, a rare health condition.

  • Medications

Medicines such as H2 blockers, proton pump inhibitors and Pepcid, reduce the production of stomach acid. However, if you are taking them regularly and stop them abruptly, you may experience a rebound in the production of stomach acid.

Types of GERD

Frequent acid reflux leads to GERD. Its types are:

  • Mild GERD

In this, you experience minimal acid reflux just once or twice a month. Dietary and lifestyle modifications can help you manage the symptoms.

  • Moderate GERD

If your gastrointestinal symptoms are frequent enough that they affect your daily activities negatively and make you seek prescribed medication from the doctor, it’s moderate GERD affecting you.

  • Severe GERD

When the symptoms of acid reflux are very painful and you fail to get relief even from prescribed medicines, it’s severe GERD. It may affect your quality of life adversely.

  • Precancer or Cancer

If frequent acid reflux or GERD is left untreated for several years, the esophagus may develop Barrett’s esophagus, a precancerous condition. The precancerous lesions, if not treated, may lead to the development of esophageal cancer.

10 Effective Diet Tips to Relieve Acid Reflux

Making dietary modifications can help you obtain relief from acid reflux. Here are simple yet highly effective diet tips that can work wonders in promoting relief from acid reflux.

  1. Eat Diet High in Fibre

Consuming a diet rich in fibre alleviates your acid reflux symptoms. Add foods abundant in fibre to your diet plan for acidity and gas. Fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seeds, beans, and nuts are foods that supply you with enough fibre for smooth digestion and minimize acid reflux.

  1. Sip Heartburn-friendly Beverages

If you are wondering what juice is good for acid reflux, go for carrot juice, cabbage juice, and juices extracted from beet, watermelon, pears, and spinach. You can have non-citrus juices, decaffeinated teas, plain water, and low-fat or non-fat milk. Make sure you avoid citrus juices, sodas, tomato juice, carbonated drinks, and alcoholic beverages.

  1. Avoid Foods That Cause Acid Reflux

Refrain from consuming spicy foods, fatty foods, chocolate, garlic, tomatoes, onions, tea, coffee, mint, and alcohol, as these can trigger acid reflux. If you are eating any of these regularly, work to eliminate them from your diet to mitigate reflux symptoms.

  1. Eat Food Sparingly and Slowly

When your stomach is quite full, greater reflux may occur in the esophagus. So, when following a diet chart for acidity patient, consume small meals more frequently instead of eating three large meals a day.

  1. Drink Some Water After Every Meal

After you relish meals, drink a small quantity of water before getting up from your plate. Drinking water at the end of meals helps dilute or wash down stomach acid that otherwise may rise into the esophagus.

  1. Avoid High-Fat Meals

High-fat meals happen to stay in the stomach for longer which can trigger acid reflux. Also, fried or greasy food can weaken the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) muscle. So, avoid eating delicacies and foods that have plenty of unhealthy fat.

  1. Say No to Smoking and Alcohol Intake

Smoking or drinking alcohol before, during, or post meals can cause heartburn. Also, these unhealthy habits can weaken the LES muscle. So, if you wish to obtain relief from acid reflux symptoms, work on quitting smoking and curb your intake of alcohol.

  1. Stay Up after Eating

Gravity helps keep the acid in the stomach down and prevents reflux when you are standing and sitting. However, if you lie down immediately after eating or some time post your meals, you may suffer from acid reflux. So, avoid naps immediately after meals, snacks, and late suppers. Make sure that you have your meals three hours before you go to bed even when you are following an acidity diet chart.

  1. Avoid Vigorous or Strenuous Workouts after Meals

Doing vigorous exercises or getting involved in strenuous activities after having your meals is bound to trigger acid reflux. Taking a stroll after dinner is healthy but engaging in running or any exercise putting pressure on your stomach is a  big no.  Make sure that you do no activity that involves bending over that sends gastric acid back into the esophagus. If you wish to practice any exercise, wait at least 2 hours after your meals.

  1. Reduce Your Weight if You are Obese

Having a lot of belly fat or being obese or overweight can exert pressure against the stomach and this can make the stomach acid rise into the esophagus. So, consult a dietician who would provide you with a diet plan for acidity and gas that also promotes weight loss.

So, if you are suffering from frequent heartburn and acid reflux and wish to obtain relief from the discomforts naturally, resort to dietary modifications. How To

African mango extract offers potential benefits

African Mango extracts have been used for centuries to treat a variety of health conditions, including cancer. These extracts can be traced back to ancient Egypt where they were used for treating wounds and diabetes, as well as stopping bleeding.

Modern science has shown that African mango extracts have certain compounds like Tannins and flavonoids, Vitamin C and Vitamin C polyphenols, carotenoids and tannin. These compounds can help reduce blood clot, fight free radicals and improve liver functions.

  1. Cancer Treatment. Worldwide, more than 50% of all types of cancer are due to environmental factors like smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol or eating unhealthy food and not getting enough exercise. It is vital to find ways of preventing cancer. Numerous studies have demonstrated that antioxidants found in fruits like blueberries, tomatoes, bananas, oranges and peas can prevent cancer.
  2. Antioxidants work by neutralizing harmful substances called "free radicals," which can cause cell damage and genetic mutations. Research shows that African mango extracts can slow down, or even reverse, the growth of cancerous cells in mice. One study demonstrated that African mango extracts can stop the growth and spread of colon tumor cells in mice. This was in vitro, using cells grown in laboratory dishes. Another study found that African Mango Extract inhibited prostate cancer cell growth in vivo (in live animals). These findings suggest that the product could be used to treat certain types.
  3. Prevention of cancer. The National Institutes of Health published a recent animal study that showed African mango extracts could prevent breast cancer development. They believe that the active ingredients in African mangoes inhibit the action of enzymes responsible for producing estrogen, a hormone known to increase the risk of developing breast cancer.
  4. Inflammation Reduction. White blood cells produce chemicals that attack foreign tissues, which causes inflammation. Inflammation can occur when there is infection, injury, or irritation. Chronic inflammation can lead some diseases, like asthma and arthritis. Research shows that African mango extracts can reduce the production of inflammatory chemicals and thus decrease the severity of conditions.
  5. Liver Function Improvement. It regulates digestion and detoxification as well as protein synthesis. Healthy livers also help regulate internal processes such as water balance, sugar levels, and red blood cells count. Research shows that African mango juice can stimulate the growth of liver cells injured by drugs and toxins. This may be why people who consume large amounts of African mango juice report feeling less tired after meals.
  6. Blood Pressure Lowering. The American Heart Association recommends adults to maintain a normal reading between 120/80 mm Hg and 140/90mmHg. High blood pressure causes damage to the arteries and can increase your risk of having a stroke or heart attack. Researchers at the University of California-Davis examined the effects of African mango extracts upon high blood pressure in rats. Their research revealed that African mango extracts significantly reduced blood pressure.
  7. Bone Building Bone Building. A double-blind placebo controlled trial was conducted at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. It showed that supplementation of 500mg of vitamin DD3 and 2g of Calcium daily, along with 3g of potassium citrate, significantly increased bone mineral density. The amount of potassium citrate required was equivalent in daily consumption to 10 ounces freshly squeezed African mango juice.
  8. Other Benefits. African mango extract promotes skin health and blood circulation, which in turn improves the skin's overall health. It stimulates collagen production which results in a smoother and younger-looking skin. African mango promotes hair follicle growth and prevents premature greying. This all started in the summer of 2004. Before that, Alley had quite a slim figure and she never seemed to struggle with her weight. However, it all changed. Recalling the old memories, Kirstie said, “I spent my whole life thin, then one summer I probably gained around 40 or 50 pounds.”

“Honestly, I didn’t know how fat I was,” Alley continued, “Thanks to the tabloids, I went, ‘Damn, girl, you’re fat!'” The main reason behind her weight gain was bad eating habits. Alley said that she was a “spontaneous person, who never planned.”

Now, after gaining weight she had to face different problems. The biggest of them was body image. Alley, herself, is a confident woman, however, she realized what other women have to go through and that is why she launched a show to tell them that it was okay.

Alley launched a show, Fat Actress. The show was based on Alley’s struggles that she faced in the world of perfect body obsession. Talking about the show, she said, “I think women across the country will relate to the story.

Talking about her weight loss journey with Jenny Craig, she said, “I lost it (weight) on Jenny Craig. I exercised moderately on my yellow townie bike. I rode it on a really long trail or over to my friends’ house. Sometimes, I rode for one or two hours.”

Kristie continued, “I tried to think like a kid. You know, what kids do. They get up, they run over to somebody’s house, and they jump on their bike. They are always in motion.” After that, Alley successfully kept that weight away for more than three years.

However, she didn’t succeed in the long term and gained some of it back. This had a very negative impact on her mental health as well. Alley had decided to live a healthy life and looking at herself falling shocked her. But she didn’t give up.
